Grouping Entries

To organize the entries in your project, you can collect them into entry groups. Groups can be nested, to create a hierarchy or tree. Groups are created automatically by some operations, and can be created manually by selection or property value. The groups are stored as part of the project. You can perform project operations with the groups as a whole or restrict operations to the members of a group.

Entry groups are identified by a group title and index. The number of entries in the group is given in parentheses at the right of the Title column, and the entry group index is given in the In column. To change the group title, double-click on it or right-click and choose Rename, then edit the text.

The main points at which entry groups can be created automatically are:

  • when you import multiple structures. The group title is set to the file name (without the suffix).
  • when multiple structures are incorporated as part of job output. The group title is set to the job name.

To create an entry group by selecting entries:

  1. Select the entries in the Project Table or the Entry list.

You can do this manually, or you can select them by property value (Select → By Property Values, see Select Entries by Property Values Dialog Box).

  2. Right-click and choose Group from the shortcut menu, or choose Table → Group.

The Group Selected Entries & Groups dialog box opens.

  3. Enter the title of the new group.

  4. Select a location for the new group. The choices are

    • At top level—i.e. outside any other groups, at the beginning or the end of the table.
    • In parent group—inside another group (the "parent group"), which you select from the option menu. The new group is placed at the end of the parent group.
  5. Click Create Group.

The entries you selected are moved inside the new group.

You can also partition entries into groups by property value ranges, by choosing Table → Other Entry Actions → Group By Entry Property or right-clicking and choosing Group by Entry Property, and making choices in the Group By Entry Property Panel.

Entries can only be in one group (not counting parent groups).
