Edit Custom Label Panel

This panel is used to compose labels for assignment to atoms. Options for customizing the label appearance are available in the Preferences Panel.

To open this panel, choose Edit Custom Label from the Apply Label menu in the Style toolbox.

Using the Edit Custom Label Panel

To create a label you need to choose the fields (properties) that will be displayed in the label. The default fields are listed when the panel is first opened. To add a field to the list, click the Add button and select the fields you want to use from the lists in the Add Label Fields Dialog Box. The fields are displayed in the order that they appear in the list. You can drag the fields to the desired position in the list, or select fields and use the arrow buttons to move them up or down. If you want to remove fields, select them in the list and click the Remove button . You can hide fields in the label by clearing the check box for the field. In this way you can keep a set of commonly used fields in the list but choose which of these are actually displayed in the label by using the check boxes.

The formatting of the atom labels is set up in the Preferences panel, in the Atom / Bond Label Preferences. The formatting includes the field separator, names of the fields, font, color, and default position. Applying fog to labels is controlled from the Fog settings of the Preferences panel.

Edit Custom Label Panel Features

Add button

Add fields to the list. Opens the Add Label Fields Dialog Box, in which you can select atom properties and entry properties for the label. When you click OK in the dialog box, the new fields appear at the end of the list.

Label fields list

Lists the fields to include in the atom labels, in the order shown. You can select multiple fields in the list, using shift-click and control-click. You can drag them or use the arrow buttons to reposition them in the list, or click the Delete button to remove them from the list. Each field has a check box that indicates whether it is included in the label or not. When a new field is added, it is added to the end and automatically included in the label.

The Custom text field is an atom property that can be added or removed from the list like any other property. It can be added multiple times. The field name is the actual text, which you can edit by double-clicking. When you first add this field, it is already in edit mode, so you can immediately type in the desired text. To change the text later, you can double-click the label or right-click the label and choose Edit Custom Text—see Edit Custom Text Dialog Box for more information.

Check button

Change the state of the selected fields: uncheck them if checked, check them if unchecked.

Repositioning buttons

Move the selected fields up or down in the list. Each click moves the fields up or down one row. The selection does not need to be contiguous.

Remove button

Remove the selected fields from the list.

Decimal places text box

Set the number of decimal places to be used in the label for the selected real properties. This text box is only active if one or more real properties is selected in the label fields list.
