Setting Up Access to PyMOL on a Mac

Both Maestro and Canvas can open PyMOL directly. To do so, PyMOL must be installed and the location communicated to the application.

Canvas requires the PyMOL location to be in the PATH environment variable. Maestro uses the following sources to find an installation of PyMOL, in the order given:

1. The PYMOL4MAESTRO environment variable, if it points to an executable file.
2. MacPyMOL in any of the following directories: $PYMOL4MAESTRO, $SCHRODINGER, $SCHRODINGER/pymol, $PYMOL_PATH
3. *PyMOL*.app in /Applications or $SCHRODINGER
4. A file named MacPyMOL in $SCHRODINGER/../pymol
5. pymol in $PATH
