- Bins settings
-
The Bin and Axis Settings dialog allows you to control how histogram bins are calculated and displayed, as well as how axis ranges, labels, and tick formatting appear in the chart. Clicking on the Bin Settings button opens the Change Bin and Axis Settings dialog.
- Bins section
-
Defines how data is grouped into bins. The available options depend on the selected data type.
- Numeric Data:
-
The bins section consists of Number of bins and Value increment options to define histogram bin calculations.
-
Number of bins: Specifies the total number of bins used to group the data. When this option is selected, the data range is divided into the specified number of equal-width bins. Changing this value and clicking Apply or OK updates the number of bins displayed in the histogram.
-
Value increment: Specifies the width of each bin. When this option is selected, the bin width is determined by the value entered in the field. It begins with the X-axis minimum value. Changing this value and clicking Apply or OK updates the size of each bin in the histogram.
Selecting one option automatically disables the other and its corresponding input field.
Show bins along standard axis: Displays bins aligned along the standard axis. This option is checked by default when only one dataset is present. If multiple datasets are present, the option is automatically unchecked and disabled.
-
Axis Range section: These options are available only for numeric data and allow overriding the default axis limits.
Min: Specifies the minimum value of the X-axis. When enabled, the specified value determines the starting point of the histogram bins.
Max: Specifies the maximum value of the X-axis. When enabled, the specified value determines the ending point of the histogram bins. When both Min and Max are specified, the histogram range is calculated using the provided values. A padding value is automatically added to both ends of the range. padding = (max − min) / (number of bins × 2).
If the minimum value is greater than or equal to the maximum value, the fields are highlighted to indicate an error and the Apply and OK buttons are disabled.
- Boolean Data:
-
Defines how Boolean values are grouped into bins.
-
True/ Not True: Groups values into two bins, where Not True includes False and Unset values.
True / False: Groups values into two bins, where Unset values are excluded.
True / False / Unset: Groups values into three bins corresponding to True, False, and Unset.
- String Data:
-
Bins are defined based on the unique values in the dataset. Each unique value forms a separate bin. Manual bin configuration is not available.
-
-
The following sections are common for numeric, boolean, and string data.
- Gap Width settings
-
Controls the spacing between histogram bins
-
Gap Width slider: Adjusts the spacing between bins. Moving the slider increases or decreases the gap between adjacent bins. The slider is disabled when the No gap option is selected.
No Gap: Removes the space between bins. When selected, bins occupy the full available width. This option is automatically enabled when Show bins along standard axis is selected.
- Labels settings
-
Controls the visibility and appearance of axis labels. Changes are applied to the histogram when Apply or OK is clicked.
-
X-Axis: Shows or hides the X-axis label. Unchecking this option hides the label. The text field specifies the label displayed on the X-axis.
Y-Axis: Shows or hides the Y-axis label. Unchecking this option hides the label. The text field specifies the label displayed on the Y-axis.
Size: Specifies the font size of the axis labels.
- Bin / Tick Labels settings
-
Controls formatting of tick labels on the axes.
-
Decimals (X-axis): Specifies the maximum number of digits displayed after the decimal point for X-axis bin labels.
-
Decimals (Y-axis): Indicates the number of decimals for Y-axis tick labels. This field is always disabled and this value is always set to 0.
-
Y-Axis Increment: Controls the spacing between tick marks on the Y-axis. When enabled, allows you to specify the interval between consecutive Y-axis ticks. If disabled, the increment is calculated automatically.
- Apply button
-
Applies the current settings to the histogram without closing the dialog. The chart is updated to reflect the changes.
- OK button
-
Applies the current settings and closes the dialog. The chart is updated and the dialog is dismissed.
- Cancel button
-
Closes the dialog without applying any changes made since it was last opened or since the last Apply action.
