Duplicating Entries

You can duplicate the selected entries in the Project Table Panel using Table → Duplicate, or the corresponding item on the shortcut menu for the entries or groups. There are several possible locations for the duplicate entries, which you can choose from this submenu.

  • In Place—Each duplicated entry is placed immediately below its source entry, and is included in the source's entry group if one exists. If all the entries in a group are selected, the action is applied to the group rather than the entries themselves. See below for details.
  • Entries Only (In Place)—Each duplicated entry is placed immediately below its source entry, and is included in the source's entry group if one exists. Only the entries are duplicated, not the groups containing the entries. This item is only available when right-clicking on the group header or on one of the selected entries.
  • Ungrouped—Each duplicated entry is placed at the end of the ungrouped entries, in sequential order.
  • Into New Group—The duplicated entries are placed into a new entry group. You can name the group in a dialog box that opens.
  • Into Existing Group—The duplicated entries are placed into an existing entry group. You can select the group in a dialog box that opens.

The duplicated entries retain the same title and entry name as the originals. If you want to copy the properties from the source entry to the duplicate, ensure that Copy Properties is checked on the submenu before duplicating. Periodic boundary properties are always copied, regardless of whether you choose to copy properties or not.

If the selected entries include one or more entire groups, the completely selected groups are duplicated as groups, and the locations are applied to the group as a whole (apart from Ungrouped). So, for example, duplicating a group in place duplicates the entire group and places the duplicate group immediately below the source group. If instead you want to duplicate all the selected entries in place without duplicating the group, choose Entries Only (In Place) from the group or entry selection shortcut menu. You can also duplicate all entries in a group and its subgroups in place, whether selected or not, by right-clicking on the group's Row or In column (to open the Single Group shortcut menu) and choosing Duplicate Entries.

You can duplicate the entries that are included in the Workspace by clicking the Duplicate entries in Workspace button in the 3D Builder.

By default, a suffix is added to the entry title to indicate that it is a copy. A banner is displayed, in which you can change the entry title, for a single duplicated entry, or the entry suffix, for multiple duplicated entries; or delete the duplicated entries. Clicking the check button confirms the entry name or suffix and closes the banner.

The duplicates are selected in the Project Table in place of the original entries, and any original entry that is included in the Workspace is replaced in the Workspace by its duplicate. If modifications have been made in the Workspace to any of the original entries, synchronization of the Workspace with these entries is performed according to the synchronization preference (see the Workspace - Changes preferences section of the Preferences Panel topic). Any changes that were made to the Workspace that were not synchronized are transferred to the duplicated entries.
