Import Spreadsheet Dialog Box

The Import Spreadsheet dialog box allows you to import data from a spreadsheet into the Project Table. Combined with the use of the Export Spreadsheet dialog box, you can export data to a spreadsheet, manipulate it, and re-import it into Maestro.

To open this panel, choose Data → Import → Spreadsheet

Using the Import Spreadsheet Dialog Box

To import spreadsheet data into Maestro, you must choose a spreadsheet file, then provide information to Maestro about how the spreadsheet rows correspond to the Project Table rows.

To specify the file, enter the file name in the File name text box, or navigate to it using the navigation tools.

To determine which entries the properties will be added to, select either Selected entries or All entries.

If you want to add values only where the project does not have values, deselect Overwrite existing data. Otherwise, existing values are replaced with values from the spreadsheet and new values are added.

When you have selected the file and set the scope, click Open. The Choose Import Key dialog box opens. In this dialog box, you determine how the rows of the spreadsheet are mapped to the entries in the Project Table, and select the delimiter.

The rows are mapped by matching values of a property in the file with values of a property in the Project Table. The File key list shows the properties in the spreadsheet file, from which you must choose one property. The Match to property in Project Table text box shows the chosen matching project property, which you select by clicking the button and using the standard property selection tools. For example, if both the spreadsheet and the Project Table have a Title property, you can match the rows by title. If the file key value matches more than one entry, the property is copied to all matching entries; if several file key values match a single entry, the row for the last file key value is used.

By default, Entry ID is selected for the Match to property in Project Table property, and it is also selected in the File key column if it exists. This allows you to easily import data that was exported and have it match the correct entries. The Entry ID is unique, so there should be no problem of multiple matches.

Next, choose the delimiter that is used in the spreadsheet file, then click OK. If the spreadsheet only contains properties that are already in the Project Table, the import is completed, and the property values are replaced.

If the spreadsheet has properties that do not exist in the Project Table, Maestro must assign a type to these properties—integer, real, string, or boolean. To allow you to check the assignments and change them if necessary, the New Properties dialog box opens. The new properties are listed in this dialog box along with their type and, for real-valued properties, the number of decimal places. You can select multiple properties from the list and set their type and decimal precision, by choosing from the Type option menu, entering a number in the Decimal places text box if relevant, and clicking Set. When you have finished setting the types, click OK to complete the import. Clicking Cancel cancels the import.
