Export Movie Dialog Box
In this panel you can export a selection of frames from a trajectory generated by Desmond or Quantum Espresso as a movie in MPEG or AV1 format.
You should not close the Trajectory Player while the movie is being exported. If you do a warning is posted, and you can save the movie up to the current exported frame, continue the export with the player still open, or cancel.
To open this dialog, click the Export button on the Trajectory toolbar and choose Movie.

Export Movie Dialog Box Features
- Frames options
- Limit range option and text boxes
- Resolution options
- Quality options
- Duration options and text box
- Frames options
-
Select an option for the frames to include in the movie. The options are:
-
One per step—Use one frame for each trajectory step in the movie. The step value is the number of frames that the trajectory advances when stepping through or playing the trajectory, and is set in the Playback Settings Pane. This option is available when the step value is greater than 1.
The initial frame is defined by the range of the trajectory that is set in the trajectory toolbar, unless overridden by the Limit range controls (see below). With the default range, this option records the movie exactly as the trajectory is played in Maestro.
-
All in range—Use all frames in the current range for the movie, regardless of the step used when viewing the trajectory.
The number of frames is indicated after the option text.
-
- Limit range option and text boxes
-
Limit the range of frames used in the movie to those specified in the Start and End text boxes. The default limits are set from the start and end sliders in the trajectory toolbar.
- Resolution options
-
Specify the movie resolution. Three options correspond to different screen sizes, in pixels, and you can specify a custom size.
- Workspace: The current screen size of the Workspace is displayed in non-editable text. This is the resolution that is used.
- 720p (HD): 1280x720 pixels
- 1080p (Full HD): 1920x1080 pixels
- 4K (Ultra HD): 3840x2160 pixels
- Custom: Specify a resolution by entering the pixel dimensions in the text boxes. The largest dimension allowed is 4000px.
- Quality options
-
Select the level of quality of the movie, from Low, Medium, or High. These options affect the quality of the final image. MPEG uses a compression method in which a certain amount of information is lost in the process; hence lower quality is more highly compressed and loses more information.
- Duration options and text box
-
These options allow you to specify the length of the movie.
- Per frame—Specify the time interval between movie frames in the text box, in seconds. The duration of the movie is reported below.
- Full movie—Specify the total time taken for the movie. The time interval between movie frames is calculated from this value.
