Display Trajectory Snapshots Panel
Display multiple frames from a trajectory (snapshots), superimposed in the Workspace, optionally color-coded by simulation time.
To open this panel, click the Export button in the Trajectory Player or the trajectory T button for a project entry, and choose View Snapshots.
This panel is docked into the Workspace by default, so you can easily switch focus from the panel to the Workspace. You can undock the panel if you want to place it somewhere else. To dock or undock the panel, use the docking button
in the title bar (left of the Close button) .

Using the Display Trajectory Snapshots Panel
Displaying multiple superimposed frames from a trajectory can be a useful way of visualizing or capturing the motion or dynamics of a system.
This panel makes use of settings made in the Trajectory Player, which it inherits when you open it from the Trajectory Player. If you open it directly from a project entry, settings from the Trajectory Player are not used. If you want to define how the frames are superimposed, you should use the trajectory player settings. This is important for eliminating drift between frames so that you can see the relative motion of the structures.
If the combined number of atoms from the frames you display is large, loading can be slow. A warning is displayed so you can continue or cancel.
Display Trajectory Snapshots Panel Features
- Add frames to superimpose options
- Add Snapshots button
- List of frames
- Delete and Delete All buttons
- Export button
- Display Snapshots button
- Options section
- Add frames to superimpose options
-
Select an option for the frames to add to the list for superimposed display.
-
Current Workspace frame—add the frame from the trajectory that is currently displayed in the Workspace. This option is only available if the trajectory player is open. You can use the trajectory player controls to advance to the desired frame, then add it to the list, then advance to the next desired frame, and so on.
-
Stepwise - every nth frame—add frames at the specified interval, starting from the first.
-
Specific frame numbers—add the frames specified in the text box. The frames can be specified as a comma-separated list of frames or frame ranges.
-
- Add Snapshots button
-
Add the frames specified by the options above to the list of frames.
- List of frames
-
List of frames to display. Each frame has a check box which you can use to display or hide the frame. You can select multiple frames to delete or export.
- Delete and Delete All buttons
-
Delete the selected frames or all frames from the list of frames.
- Export button
-
Export frames to the Project Table as separate entries in an entry group, or to a Maestro file. Opens the Display Trajectory Snapshots — Export Structures Dialog Box, where you can choose the destination, the frames, and the structures from each frame to export.
- Display Snapshots button
-
Display the selected frames in the Workspace, superimposed. When the frames are displayed, the button changes color. Click again to clear the display.
- Options section
-
Set options for display of atoms in each frame. For positioning, alignment, and other display features, use the Playback Settings Pane and Advanced Playback Settings Dialog Box of the Trajectory Player.
- Apply time-based color gradient option
-
Color each frame according to its time position in the simulation, using a blue-red color gradient. The coloring allows you to distinguish the frames, which would otherwise be colored with the same scheme. If this option is selected, the coloring is applied to the frames on export as well.
- Show/Hide atoms using options
-
Select the settings for showing and hiding atoms in each frame.
-
Trajectory Player settings—use the settings made in the Trajectory Player.
-
Custom settings—make settings for atom visibility. Opens the Display Trajectory Snapshots — Custom Settings Dialog Box dialog box in which you can make the settings. When this option is selected, a Change link is displayed, which reopens the dialog box so you can change the settings.
