Importing Entries

Entries can be created by importing structures from a file or another project. Each structure is added to the current project as an entry.

Here are ways in which you can import structures into the project as entries:

  • Use the Import Dialog Box: The Import Dialog Box uses a file selector for opening files of any supported type, with options for controlling what gets imported. To open this dialog box, choose File → Import Structures or press Ctrl+I (⌘I).

  • Drag and drop: You can drag and drop structure files of any supported file type from your window manager's file explorer onto the Workspace to import the structures in the file. When you do so, the first structure in the first file is added to the Workspace (rather than replacing it) and the new entries are added to the entry selection in the Project Table.

  • Double-click a file: If you have the file associations set, you can also double-click on structure files to import them into the most recent Maestro session, or a new session if Maestro is not running.

  • Import from another project: If the structures you want to import are in another project, you can import them by choosing File → Import From → Other Project. A project selector opens, so you can select the project, and then the Import from Project Dialog Box opens, listing the entries in the project and the properties, and allowing you to choose the entries and properties to import.

  • Import from LiveDesign: If you want to import structures from LiveDesign, choose . A prompt to connect to a LiveDesign instance opens, if you are not already connected. Then the LiveDesign to Maestro Import Panel opens, allowing you to choose the structures and properties to import.

  • Copy and paste from LiveDesign: You can copy a structure from LiveDesign and paste it into Maestro . To copy a structure in a Compound Structure cell of a LiveReport, click to highlight the cell and use Ctrl+C (⌘C on Mac) to copy the structure. To copy a structure from the LiveDesign sketcher, highlight the structure in the sketcher and use Ctrl+C (⌘C on Mac) to copy the structure. Go to Maestro and use Ctrl+V (⌘V on Mac) to paste the structure as a new entry in the Workspace.

  • Import a recently-imported file: If you want to import structures from a file that you have recently imported from, you can choose in the Project Table panel, choose File → Import Recent Structuresfilename. The file is imported with the current import settings. This is especially useful when importing into a different project, as the list records all recent imports in any Maestro session or project. The number of files displayed on the list can be set in the General – History tab of the Preferences panel.

  • Use a command: You can import structures by entering a text command in the Command Input Area in the main window. To import structures from a file, enter:

    entryimport filename

including any appropriate option or path name. See entryimport for more information on this command.

For some of the methods, a banner is displayed in the Workspace to indicate that a structure has been imported. The banner can offer further actions, depending on the file type: for, example, a Prepare link is present for PDB file import to prepare the structure with the Protein Preparation Workflow Panel.

Import of entries is controlled by preferences, which you can set in the Importing structures settings section of the Preferences Panel
